THE NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM

DE ZWARTE BLADZIJDE /

THE BLACK PAGE

150 years since slavery was abolished in the Dutch colonies, the National Maritime Museum paid considerable attention to the slave trade with the exhibition The Black Page.

The starting point of the exhibition is the dramatic story of slave ship Leusden that sank in 1738 in Suriname.

Welcome on board of the “Leusden”

This site is an attempt to let people come closer to the big drama on board of the Leusden. In the beginning you think you can choose to go left or right. But unfortunately, you will eventually understand that once you are on board of this ship, there is no escape…

You meet different people on board, both above and below. Gradually you learn about the economic background of the slave trade and experience what life was like aboard a slave ship.

We’ve created the campaign, logo image and the concept / lay-out for the website.
